...and children of all ages!!
It has been too long since I sat through a circus. But last night at the Nest the acrobats, clowns, and sword swallower were there in spirit. The event was the opening reception for our latest theme Bright Lights : Big Top featuring the photography of nest co founder Norma Quintana and Alameda artist Linda Kramer. One in black and white, the other in full saturated color, both artists show a more emotional depth to the circus and carnival than most people would expect. Norma's work is poetically composed, showing generations of a circus family that came to trust her with their most intimate moments. Linda's work gets inside the head and heart of carnival goers and asks "What is it in their eyes that fascinates so much?" It makes me believe that the rides and games are not the real spectacle at these ubiquitous fairs.
A huge thank you to all who came to eat popcorn and hear accordion tunes and supported us by taking home some circus treasures. A round of applause to Norma and Linda, Nina, Diane, Sheri, Marsha and Valerie for making the Nest look so wonderful. One guest gave me the ultimate compliment, she said, "Whenever I come here, I feel inspired." That's all we want :)
Check out the photos in the album "Circus Stars" at the right and come visit the Nest, now open Thursday thru Sunday 10am to 6pm.
